Seychelles has seen a drastic influx of visitors during the final week of 2021. A total of 7,056 visitors stepped foot onto the stunning archipelago at the end of December 2021, thereby, bringing the yearly total of visitors to an estimated 177,504.
The number of visitors during the entirety of 2020 capped out at a mere 114,858. However, considering that this was the year of the pandemic panic and that the airport was closed for four months, these numbers were expected. Unfortunately due to the initial lockdown and the level of control they had to exercise when allowing people to enter the country, a low visitor rate was unavoidable.
There were a variety of nationalities that made up the 2021 visitor figure. Most visitors were from the United Arab Emirates, Germany, Israel, France, and the Russian Federation.
Even before 2021, these nationalities made up the majority of the visitors coming to the islands. By order of amount of visitors; Germany, France, Israel, followed by the United Arab Emirates.
Despite the rapid influx of visitors, both 2020 and 2021 were leagues below the figures for 2019, boasting a grand 384,204. This figure speaks for itself proving that Seychelles was thriving in the pre-Covid era. With more visitors than both in 2020 and 2021 combined, it seems that foreign nationals can’t get enough of this island paradise.
Despite being on the “tail-end” of the pandemic, once the Omicron variant was uncovered, any hope for increased traffic to Seychelles has been lightly dampened. However, due to many countries making it off the restricted list, there is hope that Seychelles will return to its former glory in no time.
